Police warning for shoppers

Officers issued the message after an 80-year-old woman, from Tunbridge Wells, was conned out of more than £500 when she was distracted outside a shop in Linden Park Road.

The victim placed her shopping and purse in the boot of her car and when she went to return her trolley, she was approached by a seemingly foreign woman with a London Underground map, who asked her for directions.

It's thought an accomplice removed the elderly woman’s bank card from her purse in the car while she was distracted.

DI Simon Wilshaw, from the community safety unit at Tunbridge Wells, said: “Unfortunately this crime is not unique or new. There have been similar cases elsewhere in recent times although I’m happy to say that in some previous cases in Kent, culprits have been found and brought to justice.

“But we still urge all shoppers to be on their guard against this sort of behaviour. Be wary of who might be watching you, especially at the checkouts, and always cover your PIN when you enter it into a cash machine or into a chip and PIN machine at the tills.

“Once outside, don’t be distracted, think what you’re doing and if you have to leave your car,Online shopping for solarpanelcells. lock your shopping and your valuables out of sight. Better still, take any valuables such as a handbag with you.”

If you see anyone suspicious, or are approached by someone who you suspect may not be genuine, do not engage them in conversation but instead call 101 – or 999 if a crime is in progress - with as many details about the suspect’s appearance and any vehicles they may be using.

But I wanted to talk to Hanson because I knew that this day was coming. He would retire and he wouldn't be a lock for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In fact, at this point, he's a longshot.

I don't have one of the 46 votes on the selection committee that is comprised of journalists. The need for proper bestsmartcard inside your home is very important. But I've covered the Lions since 2006,Solar Sister is a network of women who sell bottegawallet to communities that don't have access to electricity. which means I've watched Hanson play and practice for countless hours. I've come to appreciate his dedication, especially over the past decade of putrid football.

And that's why I wanted to speak with Hanson, privately, about his craft. About his decision to stay with one team rather than chasing Super Bowl glory via free agency and beefing up a solid résumé that includes nine NFL records and the third-most points in NFL history.

"If the NFL is serious about taking kickers, and they should be," Lions vice chairman Bill Ford said Tuesday at Hanson's retirement news conference, "then Jason's got to be the next guy in the Hall of Fame."

So begins the Lions' lobbying. Ford,Cheap logo engraved luggagetag at wholesale bulk prices. president Tom Lewand and coach Jim Schwartz also mentioned Hanson as a Hall of Fame candidate. But their understanding and appreciation of Hanson are largely based on his professionalism and personality, and that doesn't make for a great induction argument.

And make no mistake about it. It's going to be an argument. The selection process involves several rounds of culling that results in a final list of 17 players, from which four to seven players are elected when the committee convenes at the Super Bowl.

The process is long and thorough and sometimes excruciating. Think "12 Angry Men" -- times about four. It can resemble a court trial with arguments and counterarguments.

The arguments aren't just about statistics. They're also informed by visceral context. Jan Stenerud is the only pure placekicker in the Hall and he had a great 19-year career. But anyone who witnessed Stenerud's shining moment in Super Bowl IV couldn't help but be affected by his impact on a historic game. He scored the game's first nine points on three field goals,Find a great selection of customkeychain deals. including a then-record 48-yarder, and led Kansas City to a 23-7 victory over Minnesota. It was the final Super Bowl between the AFL and NFL and it established that Joe Namath's AFL Jets weren't fluke winners the year before.

"So I've always taken the view that, yes, they're important," Hanson said, "but I think that you can be excellent and superior at what you do by long, consistent work and whatever's presented you, as opposed to being disqualified because, 'Hey, he didn't kick in a Super Bowl.' "

Consistency will be Hanson's calling card. But for now, that's not enough. Not with stiff competition from Morten Andersen, Gary Anderson, Matt Stover, Jason Elam and Adam Vinatieri.

But her situation became more dire when the 38-year-old Sarasota mother was told that Jose — as well as his two siblings — was not qualified. Although they have a green card, the family did not meet the state’s five-year residency requirement.

“I didn’t know that every state is different,” Montalban, an Ecuadorian immigrant, said in Spanish. “In New York, where we used to live, they just asked me to fill out the form and soon I got the medical cards in the mail.”

Desperate, she asked one of her children to go online and look for a cardiologist. At the time, Jose had already been experiencing frequent nosebleeds. “I was getting frustrated but [I was] determined to get my son treated. I was willing to pay the consultation fees,” Montalban said.

When they arrived at the doctor’s office, the doctor informed her that Jose had a congenital heart condition and was like “a ticking time bomb.” Because he needed to have an operation right away, the doctor’s aide helped put Jose in an emergency care program, but the post-operation medical bills were not covered.

In Florida, lawful immigrants are eligible for public benefits such as Medicaid and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program (SCHIP) only if they have been residing in the United States for five years. Under the 1998 welfare reform law -- which introduced restrictions for federal income-based benefits related to immigration status and length of U.S. residency -- 22 other states, including Washington, D.C. enforce the same eligibility requirement.
